Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Georg Arlt

  Studies in Berlin, Taiwan, Hong Kong
  M.A. Sinology, PhD Political Sciences FU Berlin
  

  Former owner of specialized tour operator companies
  (Outbound/Inbound East Asia-Europe)
  Consultant for European companies (mainly Transport, Logistics) in China
  Organizer of fairs and exhibitions in East Asia and in Europe
  Publisher, bookseller, journalist
  

  Since 1997 lecturer (Intercultural Management, Tourism) in Europe and East Asia
  Since 2002 professor for Leisure and Tourism Management

  Research Fellow of Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (Tokyo)

Event Management - part of Leisure Management

Occurs in public sector, not-for-profit sector, commercial sector

Different Classification of the leisure and event activities

- By size: Mega - Hallmark - Major - Local/Community - Individual/Private

- By sector: Sport - Entertainment - Art - Culture - Gambling - Outdoor activities - Tourism

- By form: One-Time Event - Recurrent event - Fair - Festival - Regular / Occasional / Spontaneous Activity

 

 

We will go through all stages of the preparation process of an event, using two different examples (local/international, public/commercial, series of events/singular event)

 

 

Assignment:
Planning of an event. Two topics, for each one group with subgroups:

a) Planning of anniversary celebrations (20th anniversary of FH Westküste in 2013) including analysis of situation, goals, discussing and deciding on target groups, financing, activities, media, press releases, marketing materials, social media marketing, time table, milestones, human resources, volunteer programs for on and off campus persons (incl. alumni, senior citizens university participants etc.).
Starting point: Analysis of examples of other university anniversaries.

 

b) Planning of a fair (China Outbound Luxury Travel Fair) including analysis of situation, goals, discussing and deciding on target groups, identification on tour operators and international tourism service providers operating in the luxury market as possible visitors and exhibitors, financing, profitability, date, activities, media, press releases, marketing materials, social media marketing, time table, milestones, human resources.
Starting point: Analysis of examples of other tourism and luxury fairs.
