TOURISM - WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT -

CREATING DEMAND, EXAMPLE easyCruise

easyCruise – failed attempt to develop a low budget cruise line

2003 -H.I. Stelios, owner of easyjet, decides to form a budget cruise line

2004 - Ship was acquired for an approach to cruising aimed at attracting younger customers who wished to spend the majority of their time on shore rather than on board a megaship. Ship offers barest of amenities, allowing very cheap prices. Ship would move from port to port at night or in the early morning, in order to allow the maximum time in each port ashore.

2005 – EasyCruiseOne comes into operation, calling between ports in St. Tropez, Cannes, Nice, Monaco, Imperia, Genoa and Portofino in the summer and in the Caribbean calling at Barbados, St Vincent, Martinique, Bequia, Grenada and St Lucia in the winter 2005-2006, and calling at St. Maarten, St. Kitts, Antigua, Nevis, St. Barts and Anguilla in the winter 2006-2007

2006 - EasyCruiseTwo operates in Netherlands on rivers until August 2007

2007 – Relocation to the Greek Islands for a 14-night itinerary calling at Piraeus, Mykonos, Paros, Sifnos, Poros, Spetses, Milos, Ios, Amorgos, Naxos, Folegandros and Serifos. Before possible to join the ship at any port and stay for a minimum of 2, to a maximum of 14 nights, since 2007 embarkation solely at the port of Piraeus for cruises of 3, 4, 7, 10 or 14 nights

2008 - EasyCruise Life starting service, EasyCruiseOne sold

2009 - Cruise line sold to Greek ferry operator Hellenic Seaways for £9 million.

2010ff – No vessels in operation
